No, I don't want to be Super-woman

“"Live each day as if it's your last', that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? What if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? It just wasn't practical. Better by far to be good and courageous and bold and to make difference. Not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and be loved, if you ever get the chance.”

When you read something that's a refreshing glass of icy lemonade on a hot and humid day.

I came across the above quote while reading David Nicholls's One Day, and what I really wished for, in that instant, was the chance to enlarge each of the words and inscribe them across the sky for our entire world to read: the world that is incredibly obsessed with the idea of changing itself.

I am so tired of being told to "go out there" and "do something great." I understand you guys in charge are anxious about passing on the reins and inspiration to the next generation, but could you cut us youth some slack?

  1. I am guilty of feeling guilty about being older and not being "productive." Retirement does that to you. I just want to rest on my laurels and my life resume. Have a written a novel? NO. Have I volunteered for something? NO. Have I saved the world? Definitely not. I told my husband I loved him, I brought flowers to a sick friend, I enjoyed the jays at our feeder, I tried to write positive comments to other bloggers and that is it!

  2. Maybe we could all make a little difference in somebody's world by just looking for someone to serve - - every day. whether it's opening a door, picking up a dropped package - - whatever. Big or small. There are always opportunities to do something good for someone. Every single day.

  3. GUILTY.

But hey, you fixed me up on this one a while back ^^ Little things count. Thanks for that.

Btw, I'm writing NaNo through exams, and I'm going a bit free reign too. Who knows what'll come out of it. It's just for kicks, right?

ALSO. Yes. Indeed I make that expression when I hear of future accountants. I won't lie :P But it's a personal thing. I hate numbers right now.

  4. Everyone is a superhero in their own way. And even superhereos need a day off. I like the quote you shared! We try to change the whole when we couldn't even change ourselves.
One step at a time, a rain drop becomes a trickle that turns into a stream and turns into a gushing river, that ultimately forms the vast sea.

    What's NanoWriMo?

And and what are you majoring in? :P

  9. Yesterday, I blogged about how I'm NOT a super woman. But in reality we are; just not to everyone at the same time. "To the world, you're just one person, but to one person you can mean the world."Author: Unknown

  12. Read as much as you can while you are still young. Take it from an old timer like me, you cannot take time out in old age either if you wait till your chores are done.
